Up-and-coming Scottish Womenswear Couturier Alistair Macdonald is expected to have a prolific rise over the next few years thanks to his signature timeless aesthetic, exquisite shapes and sumptuously decadent detailing!

Originally from the Isle of Bute, Alistair honed his pattern making skills while at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design where he graduated with Distinction in 2002. Over the following years, he further developed his trademark style by working for an eclectic mix of designers such as Tristan Webber, Marjan Pejoski and Jasper Conran.

Having established himself as a naturally-gifted designer for a decade, this year sees the long-awaited launch of his own Womenswear label House of Alistair. In May 2009, Alistair relocated to London’s Mayfair where he now whips up his elaborate creations from his prestigious address on Savile Row.

“It’s an incredibly humbling experience to be working here on Savile Row,” says Alistair. “It’s so rich with history! Every day I have the honour to work alongside amazing tailors who are meticulously upholding the tradition of high quality craftsmanship synonymous with this street name. I feel an immense responsibility to respect this tradition and to push my designs even further by creating the most technically dazzling and gorgeous dresses possible.”

House of Alistair specialises in Eveningwear and made-to-measure Couture. Taking inspiration from his design heroes Thierry Mugler, Madeleine Vionnet, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli, Alistair’s master pattern cutting skills sculpt the woman’s body with agility to reveal it in all its glorious voluptuousness.

“It’s said that most male designers create clothes for the woman that they desire to be”, adds Alistair. “If that’s the case…then boy would I have a fabulous wardrobe!”

Private clients have included the Emirate Royal Family, Jon Fugler of 80s band ‘Fluke’ and ‘2 Bit Pie’ and Jasmin O’Meara of pop band ‘Zoot Woman’.

House of Alistair is currently stocked at Liberty.
